The leader of majority Leader in the National Assembly Aden Duale has vowed to lead the National Assembly in rejecting the nomination of NASA leader Raila Odinga’s brother and Kalonzo Musyoka’s son to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).
Duale said that the two, Oburu Odinga and Kennedy Musyoka, were nominated by their parties based on their family relations to Opposition leaders Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka. "You cannot use your position in political parties that you run to reward your sons and brothers," he emphasized during a Citizen TV interview.
The Garissa Township MP further questioned the basis that led ODM to nominate Oburu Odinga in the National Assembly after the 2013 general elections.
"We in the 11th parliament were shocked that Oburu was nominated. It was not on gender, not on marginalized groups, not on disability so who does he represent?" Duale posed.
Oburu Odinga has since rejected the ODM nomination to EALA in a press statement to the media, urging the party to propose someone else in his place.
Deputy Leader of the Wiper party, Farah Maalim who will be facing Duale in the race for Garissa Township MP defended the nomination Kalonzo's son adding that Kalonzo junior is fit for the task given his background in Law.
"We will not allow President Uhuru Kenyatta to do it, we will not allow William Ruto to do it and we will not allow Raila and Kalonzo to do it," Duale maintained.
