Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has had assault charges against him withdrawn.
Babu, together with his bodyguard Fanuel Owino had been charged with physically assaulting a parking attendant at Fortis Towers in Westlands, Nairobi, on January 11th.
The complainant, David Wagana, has however asked the prosecution to drop the charges against Owino and his security man. It is not clear what prompted the move.
Babu was arrested by police in connection with the incident a few days after a video of him and his bodyguards beating up the attendant went viral in the social media.
The clip had been captured by a CCTV camera installed in one of the premises near the parking lot.
Babu spent two days in police cell, and it took the intervention of Nairobi senator Johnstone Sakaja to have him released on bond. Earlier attempts by National Super Alliance (Nasa) leader Raila Odinga to secure his release failed.
The two were arraigned at Milimani law courts, where they were charged with assault. They were released on Sh20,000 cash bail each.
