PS Lillian Omollo, NYS Boss Richard Ndubai Remanded for One Week Pending Bail Ruling

Youth Affairs Principal Secretary Lillian Omollo and National Youth Service (NYS) Director-General Richard Ndubai will remain in police custody until June 5th when the court will rule on whether they will be freed on bail or not.

The two will remain in custody alongside 33 other suspects despite their lawyers opposing their remand, arguing that their clients didn't pose any risk to witnesses in the Sh9 billion NYS corruption case.

“Our client is no longer in office she stepped aside… she cannot interfere with ongoing investigations as purportedly said by prosecution."

“If she was to influence witnesses, she would have done it from 2015,” Omollo’s legal team told the Milimani Law Court.

Opposing the defense lawyers’ plea for bond, the Prosecution argued that suspects posed a flight risk and possible interference with witnesses in the case.

The prosecution further argued that the evidence gathered was sufficient to secure conviction against the suspects and thus there is likelihood of them absconding if freed on bail.

“There are compelling reasons to warrant the detention of the accused persons pending hearing and determination of their case,” the prosecution submitted.

Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti, who ruled on the matter at 1:55am ordered that pre-trials begin on June 6th, while bond ruling will be delivered on June 5th.

Ogoti further ruled that suspects who failed to appear in court on Tuesday surrender themselves at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) by Thursday 2pm. All the suspects pleaded not guilty.
