Nairobi Governor Sonko Makes Another 2:45am Impromptu Visit to Pumwani Maternity Hospital

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has made another impromptu visit to Pumwani Maternity Hospital.
Sonko arrived at the hospital at around 2:45 am on Saturday to establish whether services at the hospital had improved since his last visit about two weeks ago.
Upon arrival, Sonko went straight to the maternity wards to assess the situation of babies and their mothers. Sonko also queried the mothers on the quality of services they received and whether they had been charged any fees.
He expressed his satisfaction on the improvements made by the facility's management and promised to continue delivering quality medical services to city residents.
"Our mothers do a great job of bringing us to earth. Therefore, we should provide better facilities for them to deliver safely. We cannot afford to lose the mother or the child," Sonko said.
On September 18th, Sonko made an unannounced visit to the centre where he found 12 bodies of dead infants stuffed in plastic bags and boxes.
Following the incident, the governor suspended senior officials at the hospital including the entire board.
Mothers who talked to Sonko at the hospital on Saturday said they had received good services.
"I have just given birth to my second kid. I had a normal delivery. I'm really grateful I have not been charged anything," Mwende Nzioki told Sonko.
Sonko also announced plans to expand the hospital by constructing a 10-storey building with 450-bed capacity. The Governor later toured Mbagathi Hospital at 4:30 am.
