Troubled Shalom Hospital, Where 7-Month-Old Baby Ethan Died Three Weeks Ago, Reopens

Troubled Shalom Hospital has been reopened, three weeks after it was closed by government authorities.

Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board (KMPDB) CEO Daniel Yumbya and Chairperson Dr. Eva Njenga said the facility was allowed to reopen after making the recommended changes.

The KMPDB officials said they were satisfied with the changes made by the hospital's management.

The health facility was shut down on May 6th following the death of a seven-month-old infant, Ethan Muendo.

The child died after he was injected with a dose of morphine that was 20 times stronger than what his body could handle.

The boy had been taken to the hospital after slightly scalding his hand with hot water from a dispenser.

Three staffs were arrested and charged with negligence and operating without licenses.

A few weeks before this incident, the same hospital was on the spot after a video of a woman giving birth on the floor as nurses watched and enjoyed tea emerged on social media.
