Google Honors the Late Kenyan Novelist Dr. Margaret Ogola with Doodle

Google on Wednesday honored the late Kenyan novelist Dr. Margaret Ogola.

The search engine company put a special doodle on its homepage in Kenya to celebrate the life of the late award-winning author, pediatrician, and human rights advocate.

Today would be Dr. Ogola's 60th birthday. She passed away in 2011 after a long battle with cancer.

The author is best known for her novel, The River and the Source, which was part of the syllabus for high school students between 1999 and 2004.

The River and the Source won the 1995 Commonwealth Writers’ Prize best first book in the Africa Region.

Her other famous books include Place of Destiny, I Swear by Apollo, and Cardinal Otunga: A Gift of Grace and Educating in Human Love.

Google began honoring people, events, anniversaries and holidays with a doodle, which was designed in 1999 by one of its engineers.
