Policeman in Nairobi Among Four Gunned Down for Kidnapping Chinese Man, Demanding Sh100 Million Ransom
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Saturday gunned down four suspected kidnappers in Nairobi.
The four, including an Administration Police officer, had allegedly abducted a Chinese national on Wednesday and demanded a ransom of USD1 million (Sh100 million) to release him.
They are said to have stormed the China Centre along Ngong Road in Nairobi while posing as DCI officers and picked Gao Yuan Hong, a shop owner. The criminals later called Yuan’s brother using different phone numbers, demanding he pays the ransom.
On Saturday, DCI sleuths acting on an intelligence report raided a house in Sun Track Estate in Dagoreti, Nairobi, where four armed gunmen were illegally holding the Chinese man.
A fierce exchange of fire ensued, leading to the fatal shooting of all the four suspects. The Chinese man was rescued alive and in good health.
A revolver loaded with three rounds of ammunition, six rounds of ammunition wrapped with a white toilet paper, a Nissan Tiida car of registration KCW 731 L and a police pocket phone were recovered from the suspects.
