Six police officers sustained injuries after a helicopter they were traveling in crashed in Meru on Saturday morning.
The aircraft was ferrying the team to Marsabit county for a security meeting when it went down at the Kaithe-Kithoka area in Meru, according to the National Police Service (NPS).
Among those injured are Eastern Regional County Commissioner and two police pilots.
“The two pilots and four passengers aboard the ill-fated aircraft are receiving medical attention at Meru Level V Hospital,” NPS said through Twitter.
In a follow-up tweet, NPS said an aircraft was dispatched to Meru to airlift the six to Nairobi for further treatment.
The AgustaWestland AW119 helicopter with registration 5Y-NPW is reported to have crashed at around 7.30 am.
Susan Kanana, the owner of the farm where the chopper crashed said: “The crash has destroyed my maize, my bananas and other crops…there will be nothing to harvest now.”
She should be happy plane did not crash on her with children.
