Ruto’s Cabinet to Forego a Month’s Salary in Solidarity with Kenyans Facing Starvation

Members of President Ruto’s Cabinet have agreed to forego one month’s salary in support of drought mitigation efforts in the country.
The announcement was made following a Cabinet meeting chaired by President Ruto at State House, Nairobi, on Tuesday.
“In solidarity with all Kenyans affected by the ongoing drought, the meeting resolved that all Members will forgo one-month salary as their individual and collective contribution towards the ongoing State interventions that support all the Kenyans affected by the drought,” read a Cabinet dispatch.
The Cabinet further commended the efforts of the National Drought Response Steering Committee, chaired by Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa, towards mobilizing resources to address the crisis.
“The nation’s apex policy making organ was also apprised on the progress made in addressing the effects on the ongoing drought in parts of the country,” read the communiqué.
It added: “The meeting hailed the growing partnership between the State, Development Partners and the nation’s private sector that is taking place under the auspices of the National Steering Committee on Drought Response.”
More than four million Kenyans are in dire need of food aid and water due to the ongoing drought, the worst in the country in 40 years.
The Drought Response team released a Pay bill number and bank account to allow Kenyans to donate cash to aid those affected by drought.
Well-wishers can donate money to help drought victims using Paybill number 880990 and their name as the account or through Kenya Commercial Bank account number 1305486137.
