President Ruto Dismisses Raila’s Demand to Open IEBC Servers

President Ruto has dismissed the demand by Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga to have Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) servers opened.
On Thursday, Ruto termed Odinga’s demand as an “insult to our collective intelligence and democracy.”
“It is necessary for our friends to know that the servers were opened when we all went to the polling stations,” Ruto stated.
“Demanding servers to be opened now is taking us for granted, it is to believe that there are fools in Kenya. I want to tell our friends that the servers have always been opened,” he added.
On Wednesday, Odinga issued a 14-day ultimatum for Ruto’s administration to halt the ongoing process of appointing new IEBC commissioners, saying new election officials must be appointed by a bi-partisan task force and the last election audited by a reputable organization.
“Servers must be opened and audited. under the auspices of a reputable firm or organization failure to which we shall lead people to restore their authority and voice,” he said.
“The ongoing process of reconstituting IEBC must stop immediately. A bipartisan task force must be put in place to restructure IEBC in a manner that ends its monolithic operations.”
Odinga stated that if the demands are not met within 14 days, he will lead Kenyans to massive mass action across the country to “take their power back and restore sanity.”
In a rejoinder, President Ruto vowed not to be drawn into a discussion of past and future elections, adding that no amount of threats will distract him from delivering for Kenyans.
“Kenya is governed by the rule of law and nobody is going to threaten Kenyans with impunity. Everybody must respect the law, everybody will obey and respect the constitution,” he stated.
