Former Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has welcomed his nomination to Cabinet with a show of gratitude to President William Ruto saying he will give it his best if approved.
Ruto on Wednesday named Joho the ministerial nominee for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs. The former Mombasa Governor is among 10 more faces in Ruto's new-look Cabinet, bringing the total number of nominees to 20. The President has yet to name the nominee to the office of the Attorney General and EAC and Regional Affairs ministry. In his acceptance message, Joho thanks the President for bestowing upon him the honour of serving in his second Cabinet.
Joho served as Mombasa Governor from 2013 to 2022 and is one of ten new faces in Ruto's Cabinet. Joho has expressed his gratitude to both President Ruto and Allah for the opportunity to serve Kenya in a new capacity. He pledges to work diligently with all relevant stakeholders to ensure that the Blue Economy, Mining, and Maritime sectors contribute significantly to Kenya's socio-economic transformation. Joho's nomination, along with those of other opposition figures, is seen as part of President Ruto's strategy to foster national unity and inclusivity in his administration.
The nomination process will now move to Parliament where Speaker Moses Wetang'ula will forward the names to the Committee on Appointments for consideration. The committee is expected to table its report within 28 days after which the nominees will face vetting by the House. Joho's nomination has been met with congratulations from various quarters, including his former political rival and current EALA MP Hassan Omar. Omar welcomes Joho to the government, describing him as a brother and expressing hope for their collaborative efforts to make a difference.
While some view the inclusion of opposition figures as a positive step towards national reconciliation, others see it as potentially undermining the opposition's role in holding the government accountable. Notable Azimio leaders nominated alongside Joho include Wycliffe Oparanya for Cooperatives and MSME Development, Opiyo Wandayi for Energy and Petroleum, and John Mbadi for the National Treasury.

Ruto lost a once in a lifetime opportunity to remake Kenya, win back trust of many and have an easy ride to 2027. Gen Z are not political but Kenya issues. He was blinded by zungus who indoctrinated him into luciferians secret clubs and love of money.
