Former Bomachoge Chache MP Simon Ogari Dies at 68

Former Bomachoge Chache Member of Parliament Simon Ogari has passed away at the age of 68.

Ogari died on Tuesday morning at his residence in Karen, Nairobi, following a prolonged illness. Ogari's political career began in earnest with his election as Bomachoge MP in a 2009 by-election, where he secured victory on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket. This win set the stage for a notable political journey that saw him serve in various capacities within the government. His appointments included roles as Assistant Minister for Trade in 2010 and later as Assistant Minister of Information and Communications from 2012 to 2013. In the 2013 general election, Ogari was re-elected as the inaugural MP for the newly established Bomachoge Chache constituency, a position created under the 2010 Constitution.

Throughout his tenure, he remained committed to the ideals of the ODM party and focused on serving his constituents. However, his political career faced a setback in the 2017 general election when he lost his seat to Alpha Miruka. Born in 1956, Ogari's educational background played a crucial role in shaping his approach to governance. He graduated from the University of Nairobi in 1980 with a Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, which provided him with valuable expertise in his political career. The news of Ogari's passing has elicited an outpouring of condolences from political leaders and constituents alike.

Nominated Senator Essy Okenyuri has praised Ogari's leadership, describing him as a remarkable figure who served with unwavering dedication. Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, who served alongside Ogari in Parliament, remembers him as a kind and selfless individual. During his time in office, Ogari made significant contributions to the development of Bomachoge Chache constituency. He initiated and supported various infrastructure projects, including the construction of roads, schools, and healthcare facilities. His efforts to improve living standards in the area earned him widespread respect and admiration.

Beyond his political achievements, Ogari was known for his philanthropic activities. He supported numerous community initiatives, including providing scholarships for underprivileged students and funding local development projects. This generosity further endeared him to many in his constituency and beyond.
