Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has unequivocally rejected the idea of pursuing romantic relationships via social media, attributing his stance to both his age and personal principles.
In an insightful interview with Kogi's Corner TV on January 9, the 65-year-old governor disclosed that he regularly receives messages from young women seeking romantic engagement but feels physically unable to reciprocate their interest. Kahiga, who is married to Caroline Wamaitha and is a father of three, expresses concerns about "adopting" younger partners, citing the potential complications such relationships could introduce into his life.
"The girls usually beg me to 'adopt' them. I cannot do that. For me, it is inviting trouble and poverty into my life," he said.
He remarks that he has never regretted past romantic connections, crediting his resilience to a pragmatic approach to life. Recalling his earlier experiences, he speculates that individuals who previously dismissed him may now reconsider their choices in light of his current status as a public official. The governor also addresses the issue of romantic relationships among elected officials, describing proposals to legislate such matters as illogical.
"I am a realist and I recover very quickly from upsets. I do not carry around heartbreak. I am the kind of person who looks at things from a realistic perspective. If I have lost, I accept it and move on," he said.
He emphasizes that affairs of the heart should remain outside the realm of regulation, referencing the recent marriage of Mathira MP Eric wa Mumbi and Murang'a Woman Representative Betty Maina as an illustration of consensual love deserving of respect. In addition to his views on personal relationships, Kahiga voices his commitment to lifelong learning and personal development.
Recently completing his doctorate, he is now exploring the possibility of pursuing a law degree through an online university, which he believes will be manageable alongside his official responsibilities. He urges others to prioritize their education, while also sharing his enthusiasm for music and online content creation.
As his term as governor draws to a close, Kahiga has hinted at a potential bid for the Senate in 2027, contingent upon the support of the residents of Nyeri. His primary focus continues to be on serving his constituents while advancing his personal growth journey.
