Ken Mijungu Exits KTN News After Four-Year Stint

Renowned journalist Ken Mijungu has announced his departure from KTN News, concluding a substantial four-year tenure with the media house under Standard Group PLC.

In a statement regarding his decision, Mijungu reflects on the dynamic and stimulating nature of his journey at KTN, expressing gratitude to God, his colleagues, and the organization for the memorable experiences he gathered. Although he has confirmed his decision not to renew his contract, he has not disclosed his future career plans within the media landscape.
Mijungu's exit from KTN News signifies the end of a pivotal chapter in his nearly two-decade-long journalism career.

His foray into the field began during the turbulent post-election period in Kenya (2007-2008), where he borrowed a camera from his brother to document the violent unrest in Kibera. The footage he captured during that crisis gained the attention of K24's management, leading to his recruitment as a reporter. Throughout his nearly four-year tenure at K24, he held various roles, including news desk reporter, business anchor, and talk show host.

In December 2012, Mijungu transitioned to CCTV Africa—now known as CGTN Africa—taking on significant reporting assignments that included the Mpila military base explosion in Congo Brazzaville and a London conference on Somalia. After slightly more than a year, he rejoined Nation Media Group’s NTV in February 2013, where he became a prominent figure as a senior reporter and host of the current affairs program "Sidebar," a position he maintained for seven years until mid-2020.

In December 2020, Mijungu began his role as a news anchor at KTN News. His contributions during this period marked a significant enhancement to the channel’s programming. His departure has led to speculation regarding his next career move, with rumours suggesting he may join Cape Media, the parent company of TV47 and Radio 47, founded by billionaire Professor Simon Gicharu of Mount Kenya University. Mijungu's evolution from a trained lawyer to a distinguished journalist underscores a trajectory characterized by resilience and adaptability.
