Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have made a second arrest in the murder case of taxi driver Victoria Mumbua Muloki.
Muloki's body was discovered at the City Mortuary on October 3, 2024, after she had been missing for three weeks. The newly apprehended individual is alleged to be an accomplice of Edwin Ng'etich, the initial suspect who confessed to the crime. Ng'etich was arrested earlier after being found in possession of Muloki's vehicle.
According to his account, on September 27, he hired Muloki for a ride from Mombasa to Samburu, during which he violently attacked her, repeatedly assaulted her, and confined her in the back of the car. The second suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, was taken into custody on February 21, 2025, as part of the ongoing investigation. The DCI statement indicates that this individual is also implicated in the murder of another male taxi driver in Migori on July 31, 2024.
The circumstances of the Migori case bear similarities to Muloki’s murder, raising concerns about a potential pattern. Authorities have stated that efforts to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in these crimes are continuing. They emphasize the importance of collaboration between law enforcement and the public in combating such violence. A postmortem examination conducted by government pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor revealed that Muloki died as a result of extensive trauma.
The examination indicated she was repeatedly struck with a blunt object and subsequently strangled. In a separate development, the DCI has also arrested a 39-year-old woman in connection with the murder of a man in Nairobi on May 11, 2022. This case, initially reported as mob injustice at Kasarani Police Station, was reopened following a complaint lodged on November 19, 2023.
The renewed investigation has resulted in the woman's arrest. These arrests underscore the DCI's dedication to pursuing justice and the importance of comprehensive investigations in addressing complex criminal cases. The public is keenly awaiting further developments, with hopes that all those involved in these acts will be held accountable.
