Eldoret Launches American Spaces Bus to Boost Youth Innovation and Digital Access

Eldoret, Kenya, is now home to the American Spaces Bus, a mobile innovation hub designed to bridge the digital divide and empower Kenyan youth.
The initiative, launched on Monday, represents a novel approach to international educational collaboration between the United States and the Kenya National Library Service (KNLS). The purpose-built bus, conceived with American technology and constructed by Kenyan hands, is equipped with modern technology to enhance the accessibility of digital resources and create opportunities.
It provides free, high-speed Wi-Fi, laptops, a 3D printer, and digital maker kits, all intended to spark ingenuity. A recording studio enables content creation and storytelling. The facility is intended to serve as a catalyst for development.
US Chargé d’Affaires Carla Benini highlighted that the bus, built locally with American innovation, illuminates Eldoret and the region. As part of the global American Spaces network, the mobile hub strengthens Kenya's existing six centres, known for their popularity.
By delivering tools directly to underserved communities, the initiative reflects a shift towards flexible public diplomacy focused on local engagement. This approach indicates a broader trend toward meeting communities where they are, rather than expecting them to seek out resources.
The US Embassy has opened a public call for name suggestions, inspiring enthusiasm among Kenyans.
