Ruto to Meet Grammy Organisers in Key US Visit After Trump Re-election

President William Ruto is preparing for a significant visit to the United States next month, timed to coincide with the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

This trip is not just a diplomatic mission but a strategic effort to position Kenya as a key player in the global creative and digital economies. A central focus of Ruto’s visit will be efforts to advance Kenya’s music industry. Speaking at the Kenya National Music Festival State Gala, the President outlined plans to engage with the Recording Academy, the organisation behind the Grammy Awards.

These discussions are aimed at establishing world-class music production facilities in Kenya, designed to empower local artists and enhance their global competitiveness. Additionally, Ruto expresses his ambition to host an African edition of the Grammy Awards in Nairobi, a move that would solidify Kenya’s status as a cultural hub on the continent.

The President’s agenda also includes meetings with senior executives from major technology companies, aiming to foster digital collaboration and create new opportunities for Kenyan content creators. One key area of focus will be integrating M-Pesa, Kenya’s popular mobile money platform, with Facebook’s payment system.

Ruto argues that this partnership would streamline payment processes for Kenyan creators, making them faster, more efficient, and more accessible. By forging partnerships in both areas, the Ruto administration aims to attract investment, stimulate innovation, and elevate Kenya’s cultural influence globally.
