A man in Bungoma has elicited mixed reactions after finishing two kilograms of ugali in just 35 minutes to take the ‘Ugali King’ title.
Tony Wamalwa from Kanduyi won the annual ugali eating competition held in Kibabii after outdoing his rival Anthony Nyongesa in the ‘final’.
The rules of the competition were simple, eating two kilograms of ugali, with an accompaniment of omena stew and washing it down with water.
Wamalwa and Nyongesa had been advised against eating anything to prepare their stomachs for the grueling competition ahead.
As is the norm in the yearly competition, the dish comprising stone-hard ugali and wet-fried fingerlings was prepared in the open, as all spectators and participants witnessed, and served hot.
Nyongesa, donning a red t-shirt, and Wamalwa in a multi-colored top took their position against plates full of steaming hot ugali and bowls of their preferred accompaniments.
After 35 minutes of hand-and-mouth coordination with fans cheering them on, Wamalwa emerged as the winner with Nyongesa barely quarter way through.
The event takes place annually and the champion usually receives maize seeds and fertilizer to use during the planting season. In addition, Wamalwa was also awarded tree seedlings.

Well they got their 15 minutes of fame. What next? Olympics? Was this just away to get a free meal?...
Anyway,Iam curious as to why they picked ugali, and omena as the "tools of the game"? Are we now going to see competions in the following:
Ugali na Matumbo
Sugarless uji
Uji with sugar
Chapati na kuku
Ugali na maziwa lala
Are we going to have women's category?Transgender? And is there an age limit??
And finally when are we going to put a stop to this outlandish behaviour before it gets out of control? Why I say this is that,Iam reminded of the world's longest kissing contest of 58 hours. There are some contests I would like to suggest but they are for funs only. Before I embark on them,I would like to consult my lawyer first.
Relax. You are thinking too much about it. Secondly it's an annual thing, occurs once a year, so it's just fun. Let people be, we only live once. I wouldn't mind being in such a competition, there are such events all over the globe.
Ezzy,Iam at ease.Nothing wrong with the questions I asked,I pressume...?Just pick afew and answer if you could. That's all...I take it that you are an ardent follower, or participant of such"sport".Let me know if you are looking for sponsors.
Since you wouldn't mind being in such a competition, you should congratulate @Maxiley for expanding other combinations.May be you could win contest for; fried goat testacles with rice, and wash it down with aglass of cow blood.
Ezzy whatever I presume you are just a troll. Give me those fried testicles I will shove them down your throat. @Maxiley I might need sponsors soon hehe. Anyway it was just my take.
@ Ezzy,I will work on your sponsorship.Just send me your proposal.Anyway,I wondered why you thought that,I was No longer At Ease, and mmmThings Fall Apart where I reside at,The River Between GAted Community to avoid The arrow Of God striking me.Iam A man Of The People,In addition to being Son Of A woman, and aman ofcourse...
Eating all that Ugali for that prize is a joke.
They need to bring this competition to US to replace the hot dog🌭 eating competitions
You mean for Kenyans in USA?
Really? Omena but not inghoko? I'm at a loss how someone can consume 2 kilos of uganga in 35 minutes
