China Donates Sh2.25 Billion Parboiled Rice to Kenya

The Chinese government has chipped in to help Kenya tame hunger by donating 21,366 metric tons of parboiled rice worth Sh2.25 billion. This is about 450,000 - 50kg bags of the rice that has been partially boiled.

Devolution and Planning Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri and Chinese Ambassador to Kenya, Liu Xianfa are expected to receive the relief food on Tuesday at the Port of Mombasa.

Kiunjuri said that the consignment will ease the hunger situation in the country and thanked China for the donation.

"I note with appreciation that the Government of the People’s Republic of China has come to our aid.

"This rice will be freely distributed to hunger-stricken Kenyans throughout the country," Kiunjuri said.

100,000 bags of the food commodity will be received first while another batch will arrive in the country in July and August and will be distributed to affected communities for the next six months.

"I thank the government of China for coming to our aid at this time when drought is affecting a big number of our citizens," he said.

The country has faced food shortage in recent months which has prompted the government to import maize from foreign countries, to try and cushion the shortage that has now become a political debate ahead of the August polls.

Uhuru and Chirchir Arap Ruto have delivered the people of Kenya into being the new colonial State of China! The Kenyan Freedom Fighters rescued Kenyans from the British colonialism.

I am worried about my mental state of my fellow Kenyans! So many years of dictatorship and unnecessarily arrest has turned the people of Kenya into political zombies.

Instead of the Kenyan people demanding the arrest of Jubilee Alliance incompetent leaders because of the shortage and the lack of the basic commodities, they are busy worshiping two very incompetent people by attending their political meetings - Uhuru and Ruto. This is known in psychology as the "Stockholm syndrome."

nstead of the Kenyan people demanding the arrest of Jubilee Alliance incompetent leaders because of the shortage and the lack of the basic commodities. Drought has been the cause of food shortage, the president and the deputy are not responsible for delivering rain or teaching people how to sustain themselves, besides this is not the first time the country has had to depend on food coming from other countries.

Sam Igram, you are correct in saying that"this is not he first time the country has had to depend on food coming from other countries".But when will this stop? I see no problem with taking hand-outs when disaster strikes. We do not have to depend on this unreliable rain season year after year. Someone has already said that there is water 7feet under these dry counties.
And this is where the government comes in.Most of these people are poor.Give them water, they will know what to do with it.
My religion SCIENCE has done alot to eradicate hunger in many places in the world. We do not have to rely on rain for water.Yes some methods of growing food such as hydroponic are expensive, but can be done in very small scales using solar energy to power the pumps for nutrients. This is where we need capital, and brain power, not sacks of mchele.
Our universities supposedly have been graduating engineers, and scientist for as far back as 50 years ago. What do they have to show for their education? We need them to chart ways and find solutions that are indigenous to our needs.Do we have any think tanks in Kenya?

@ Ndugu "S.I. " Excuses! Excuses! Excuses! In Turkana region, fresh water is available just 7 meters below the surface of the land. Jubilee leaders are incompetent and therefore not fit to be in power again. Their presence in our government is a continuity of Kamau and Toroitich inept leadership characterized by arrogance, inefficiency, nepotism, and corruption.!

No more excuses. The State of California had a long drought that lasted for many years. I did not see California begging for corn from Mexico.

As you well know, the current Jubilee Alliance members in power are the most corrupt in the entire Kenyan history. After the election, they will be arrested and tell us where Waiguru billion of shillings loot went!

We should appoint the Chief Justice of Kenya to take over power temporarily because neither Raila nor Uhuru are fit to lead the Republic of Kenya!

Long live the New Republic of Kenya without Raila or Uhuru in our State House.

Nakuuunga mkono kabisa.Corruption is our enemy number one and made worse by tribalism. We make a lot of noise and demonstrations when our leaders are mentioned in corruption, yet we go ahead and reward them with public positions since they belong to my region, religion, community to name just a few.
Yes, our leaders, through corruption, are the root cause of this hunger and other many problems plaguing our dear nation.Ndugu S.I says that they have not blocked rain but through corruption, they have. It is through corruption that most of our water catchment areas have dried. It is through corruption that our taps have dried and water rationing is the order of the day. It is through corruption that we are walking on garbage everywhere. We have all resources and technology to supply water to all without any rationing. We have resources and technology to supply water to North Eastern and other dry and productive areas of our country and thus boost irrigation and food production.Twanjitakia
haya yote.

In all those comments from different people, the only one that makes a lot of sense from someone who seems well learned or has a lot of wisdom is " mkenya halisi". You spoke like 100 wise men.
Huyo jamaa wa kwanza speaks a lot of nonsense!
