NASA Claims 100 Supporters Killed in Protests, Rejects President Uhuru's Re-Election

In their press briefing on Saturday in Nairobi, opposition National Super Alliance (NASA) claimed that over 100 of their supporters have been killed by police in the ongoing protests over declaration of President Uhuru as the winner of Tuesday's elections.

Gunshots in Kibera and Mathare area in Nairobi as well as in Kisumu, Homabay and Migori have continued to rent the air as police disperse protesting supporters.

A 10 year-old girl was shot dead in Mathare Area 2 on Saturday, while 11 others were reportedly killed in Nairobi and Kisumu.

Acting interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i however, denied claims that police had killed protesters.

Opposition leaders led by Johnstone Muthama and James Orengo said that more than 100 people had already been killed during the post election protests.

"The number includes 10 children. Police have put them in bags to hide them. The violence being meted is intended to make NASA submit to defeat," Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama told the press on Saturday.

"We want to remind Matiang'i and [IG Joseph] Boinnet that they are personally responsible for this," he added.

Muthama also maintained that the coalition will not accept the re-election of President Uhuru adding that "the will of the people must come to force".

"Uhuru does not have any electoral mandate to be a president. We have the will and determination and your will will count," he said.

"We appeal to our supporters to stay out of harm's way. A stolen election does not amount to establishment of the government, they should remain calm," he said.

"In this situation they don't go to mortuaries, this time they are one step ahead they are putting them in body bags.. the bags were distributed. we raised an alarm and nobody heard us," Orengo said.

"This is an operation that the government knew what they were doing."

"What is happening in Kibera is a military operation. Do you kill criminals? That is not the law. We have talked to our sources in the police and they say those doing the shooting are not our people," Orengo noted.

So what is your next step. Orengo said you do not intend to go to court however your supporters are anxious and this is affecting the regular Citizens who did their job and voted. Power abhors a vacuum thus do not create one. Inform the citizenry of your next step so that the démonstrations being carried out by those who feel agrieved can stop and life can go on

What a number? 100? Or is it easy to just say one hundred?100 count with no evidence? Orengo is putting across some assumption that these bodies( if at all they exist) will not be put in the morgue because he very well know his allegations to be a lie.

There is no power vacuum in Kenya. We have a fully functional government and security forces in place. Anyone who fails to abide by the directives of Interior Secretary should be ready to deal with the consequences of their actions. Remember the GSU motto is Fanya Fujo Uone. In the words of President Kagame, "This is not a threat. It is a warning".

Where is the evidence of 100, these kind of irresponsible, emotional and baseless accusation is what is fueling the fire. Why oh why do they do this everytime.

Those inciting people to face the wrath of the police and be killed while the inciters are safe under their body guards should be locked up.

This NASA supporters and everyone who believe whats NASA leaders say should think and think more than twice.

So This nameless man,i think they call him Orengo says thats this time police are killing people and putting them in body bags....so is he saying all those 100 people did not have mothers and fathers and wives and children?? Becouse if there was people that were killed and police took them away....how comes a 100 families have not come out to say their loved ones have gone missing????

In order for Africa to map their future, they must have the courage to sit down and come up with new ideas that are different from the foreign constructs that we have accepted and currently making us self-exterminate ourselves.

C.I.D. We have to get rid of:-

1. C. stands for abolishing "christianity."
2. I. stands for abolishing " islam."
3. D. stands for abolishing "democracy."
CID is responsible for the mess that we are facing in Africa.

As I have told you earlier you have the same mentality like Al Shabaab, ISIL & Boko Haram. Why are you bothered by somebody worshiping their God/god peacefully wherever they are. Let people worship whoever they want and wherever they want. Freedom of worship

Because some politicians are so intent of winning, that they fail to understand that there can only be one winner per seat no matter how many people are trying to vie for the seat. I also find it being irresponcible for a parent to put their child in a situation that they know or should know could cause harm to them.

My suggestion is for a gag order to be placed on NASA so this inciting people can stop and hopefully this mess might end, people need to understand there was only one seat for presidency being contested for, how many of those politicians had their families there demonstrating?. So please let us not die for anyone.

Not confirmed but intelligence reports indicate that Kidero is financing unrest in city slums

I second San Igram's suggestions to gag all these divisive inciters from holding press conference or giving them any platform to puke their baseless nonsense merely to incite Rao's blind worshipers to commit acts of violence. If Luo fools throw themselves into streets in the name of their evil god of doom and gloom, then they deserve any and all consequences of their foolish acts. Individual rights enshrined in the constitution begin with and are anchored on individual responsibility and accountability to one's safety. No government is ever responsible for the safety of those who foolishly undertake suicide missions no matter whom they worship or give allegiance to. Those ignorant fools willing to die for Raila presidency must realize that, if Raila were declared the winner, they would still be living in their smelly slums eating ugali with dirty water while their sacred cow was feasting in his Karen palace or 1B castle in Kisumu or in 5* hotels/resorts anywhere in the world. This reminds me of the old saying that "Fools tread where wise people dare not!"

Most Kenyans of goodwill do not want to see anybody hurt or killed because of politics. The security forces are trying to keep everything under control to prevent the post-election-violence we witnessed in 2007.

This election is over and done with and they winners have been declared. It's time to wananchi to get back to nation building and raising their kids. Remember we still need to pay rent, bills, school fees and buy food.

Those inciting hapless Kenyans to violence are sitting on millions and have their expensive houses to retire to in peaceful Karen, Muthaiga, and Runda. Have you noticed there's no violence in the rich neighborhoods. People in Kawangware, Kibera, and Mathare should wise up. It doesn't matter who's president - you are on your own.

Maxiley (not verified)     Sun, 08/13/2017 @ 04:44am

Mumbi, it actually matters who is president, why else are these contests vigorously, and sometimes violently fought/contested?
I deology is what maps the shape of a country.
Yes you are eventually on your own,but if the government of the day can offer you a job,and security, then you already have a reason to thank that government...
Yes vote for a leader you believe that can advance your ideologies ...
