NASA Vows to Defy Government's Ban on Anti-IEBC Demos in City Centres

National Super Alliance (NASA) has vowed to defy the ban by government to hold their anti-IEBC demos in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu Central Business Districts.

In a joint statement by Nasa Members of Parliament, the leaders said they will go ahead with their protests as scheduled.

Reading the statement, Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo said that Nasa reads mischief in the move by the government to bar NASA supporters from protesting, yet no statement was issued on the “Nairobi Business Community”, which has been disrupting their demos.

“That directive is unlawful. We will protect our right as outlined in the constitution and we will proceed with our demonstrations,” said Dr. Amollo.

Other MPs present during the press briefing include Simba Arati (Dagoretti North), Antony Aluoch (Mathare) and Esther Passaris (Nairobi Woman Rep).

The MPs distanced their supporters from the chaos and destruction of property witnessed in Nairobi and Kisumu, saying that police are to blame since they are supposed to protect them.

In a media briefing earlier in the day, acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i said the demos had been banned, citing Public Order Act that provides for protection of citizens and their property.

“Following a meeting of the National Security Advisory Committee held earlier today and in accordance with Section 5 of the Public Order Act; due to the clear, present and imminent danger of breach of peace and public order as witnessed in recent demos, the government notifies the public that, for the time being, demonstrations shall not be allowed within CBDs,” Dr. Matiang’i said.

Nasa has announced it will hold daily anti-IEBC demos beginning Monday next week.

These stupid MP cons should come to the front lines and face the wrath. Don't just incite as you hide at parliament. Njooni mbele ya laini. Matiangi haongei, anatenda. Mtaona cha mtema kuni.

Matiangi needs to take it easy or go slow.He thinks that heading the internal security docket he is in heaven.Matiangi needs also to understand that there was Hezekia Oyugi and John Muchiki who was tougher than him ,there was also George Saitoti and then recently Nkaissery.Matiangi uhuruto will not be in power for ever.

The layman in me says, constitution protects, and in the confines of this protection there are laws that govern the land. Even in the most democratic of nations, when protests turn violent law and order must be restored; so that the constitution can protect all of us the "aggrieved" and the silent majority. You cannot invoke the constitution only to tramp on the rights of others and break the law. Why not demonstrate peacefully and responsibly? or you fear it will fizzle out?

Destroying people properties is not constitutional. Even in United States where law & order is followed extensively, protestors get arrested and put in jail when they cause chaos.

These protestors should go back to work. Why be on the streets protesting for people who live in Karen or Muthaiga? The politicians are there to incite and show citizens how their rights are robbed.

I just wish these people can Open their Eyes! Once these politicians gain power, you are not going to see them putting the food on your table or paying for your school fees.

I am luo but in all due honesty this demonstrations lack any substance.. there are laws and there has been no foul play. The Supreme Court found nothing against IEBC and so chaos mean nothing even under law.. I support matiangi and quite honestly I support shoot to kill anyone stealing from businesses.. it's enough rails stole from us when contributed money that he alleged to go do campaigns and he did not engage in any activities to support that. I am ashamed of raila and the whole NASA party for continued rubbish in advocating chaos and violence..! This must stop or should be stopped at all means and we should be allowed our freedoms and continued peace as we work hard for a better future
