President Uhuru to Pay Bride Price for His Great Grandmother to a Maasai Family

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s family are making arrangements to visit a Maasai family in Narok and settle the bride price for former President Jomo Kenyatta’s grandmother, identified as Mosana, after more than 200 years.
President Uhuru's great grandfather married Mosana, a girl from a maasai family from Narok but failed to settle the entire bride price. The first family will therefore soon be visiting ole Gilisho family in Narok West Sub County to settle the debt. Customary laws requires that bride price must be cleared no matter how long it takes.
Former Gatundu MP Ngengi Muigai and his brother Kung’u Muigai, both cousins of President Uhuru, have been representing the family in negotiations with the Gilisho family on how to clear the debt of the ‘stolen girl’.
Sources within the Kenyatta family say the family has been tracing the roots of their great grandmother with the help of Maasai council of elders for several years. The mission bore fruits in 2013.
Speaking recently in Narok, Mr Kung’u said that Agikuyu warriors raided the Maasai village of Naroosura and fled with a herd of cattle and a girl who later gave birth to Kung’u Magana, who was the father of the first Kenyan President Jomo Kenyatta. Kung’u said that since President Uhuru was named after his great grandfather, Muigai, it is his responsibility to pay ‘his’ bride price.
“Mosana is the mother of our family. We respect her and that is why we have taken time to trace her origin,” Kung'u said.
Chief John Gilisho, Uhuru's great grandmother's family spokesman confirmed they are expecting the first family, but did not disclose the date. “We are working tirelessly to ensure the day is a success. Everything will, however, be done according to traditional Maasai culture,” said Chief Gilisho.

@Guest 1, It's cultural norm just like teeth removal and wife inheritance at the lake. If you had a choice what would you pick? I'd say dowry, how about you? And that wife inheretance may come equipped with the hiv.
HAHAHAHAHHA. Spot on.

This is how (beginning in the 19th Century) Kikuyus have been Encroaching on and Grabbing MAASAI Land beginning with NAIROBI (the Land of the MAASAI).

My great-grandmother Ndete was "stolen" from Maasai land when she was pre-pubescent and was adopted into her new Kikuyu family in Kiambu via a "goat ceremony" as a daughter. when she was of age she was married off to Njuguna my great -grandfather and together they gave birth to Wanjiru my maternal grandmother. This was very common practice in those days as Maasai and Kikuyu raided each other for livestock and pre-pubescent girls only... All grown-ups including pregnant women and boys were not spared in the raids.

Pedophiles. How come the Masai people have never been accused of "stealing" kikuyu girls. This is thus far historical ethnic injustice victimising the Masai people. Can you imagine what the parents went through? Sad part is, the Kikuyu thieves never bothered go trace the girls' roots nor apologize. Appears the stolen women died without visiting their parental homes nor knowing their families. Shetani ashindwe!!! This uwizi is innate.

Lol always amusing to read Kenyan takes on issues.... Nonetheless this happened in most communities during the ages of our great great grandparents I guess... My mom who is meru told me that all the 7 sisters of her grandmother (her mums side) were nabbed during such raids by the maasais to be married, similarly my great great grandma(her dad's side) was maasai also married via same means. Guess it could have been a mutual agreement of some sort between specific communities with same cultural practices/beliefs hence the practice may have been viewed differently then... It could have also served to prevent illness brought about by marrying within relatives but because of language barrier this was done instead.. Talk of Wisdom the ancient way
