NASA to Punish MPs Who Recognize Kenyatta as President

The National Super Alliance (NASA) has reacted angrily to a move by a section of its MPs to recognize Uhuru Kenyatta as President.

The decision by the MPs is in contrary to the coalition's stand, which declared not to recognize Uhuru as President, arguing that he lacks legitimacy.

In a statement issued by Minority Leader in the National Assembly John Mbadi, who doubles up as Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party chairman, NASA said it will take unspecified action against the MPs.

Mbadi further noted that such characters will not derail Nasa's resolve to swear in opposition leader Raila Odinga as President, stating that the coalition is committed to its plans.

Kiminini MP and Deputy Minority Whip Chris Wamalwa said the coalition will meet and decide what action it will take against the leaders.

"The fact that you vied on the NASA coalition you have no otherwise. We might differ in terms of ideas but when we come round the table we have no otherwise but to tore the party line," Wamalwa said.

Addressing the media at Parliament buildings on Tuesday, the defiant MPs also opposed the planned swearing in of Odinga as people's president.

The MPs included Sylvanus Osoro (South Mugirango), Shadrack Mose (Kitutu Masaba), Joash Nyamoko (West Mugirango), Zadock Ogutu (Bomachoge Borabu), Alfa Miruka (Bomachoge Chache), Richard Onyonka (Kitutu Chache South), Samuel Arama (Nakuru West) and Innocent Obiri (Bobasi).

“At this time, our President is Uhuru Kenyatta. That is what the people back in my constituency know but that doesn’t mean that there are no issues to be talked about,” said Mr Onyonka who spoke on behalf of the MPs.
