Jubilee MP Threatens to Ditch Party over President Uhuru's "Dictatorship"

Marakwet East MP Bowen Kangongo has threatened to ditch Jubilee Party over what he described as "dictatorship" by President Uhuru.

This comes after President Kenyatta rallied other Jubilee MPs to pass a vote of no confidence against Mr. Bowen, Alfred Keter of Nandi Hills, Emgwen's Alex Kosgey, Silas Tiren of Moiben and James Gakuya of Embakasi North for defying him and the party's position on leadership of various Parliament Committees.

Bowen bagged the vice chair post of the Environment and Natural Resources Committee after running against Jubilee party and President Uhuru's preferred candidate.

The MP said he will leave the party if the President continues to bulldoze the party's operations in Parliament.

“The party dictatorship ended a long time ago with KANU where if you had a divergent view with the executive you were de-whipped and removed from the party,” said Bowen.

“It is not the issue of regional balance but personal interests. There are some cartels interested in the importation of sugar and fertilizer and as such do not want certain people to head the agriculture committee,” said Bowen.

During a Jubilee Parliamentary group meeting in State House late last year, MPs agreed on how the House Committee positions would be shared in order to achieve regional and ethnic representation.

However, the five MPs ignored the deal and contested against candidates agreed during the meeting that was chaired by President Kenyatta.

Let them seek a new mandate by resignation and through a by election! Then they can brag about their independence.
