Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua Builds Public Toilet in a Record Seven Days

After tarmacking a road in a record 10 minutes per kilometer, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua is at it again.
This time round, the Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) party leader said the Machakos county government had managed to construct a public toilet in Mlolongo in a record seven days.
In a tweet, the former government spokesman said he had toured the new public facility alongside Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, who has been on a three-day benchmarking tour to Machakos since Wednesday.
"We also toured the Mlolongo citizen’s toilet who’s construction took only 7 days.
By being innovative and creative, we are able to solve a need of the people using cost effective means and as fast as realistically possible," Governor Mutua tweeted.
Mutua has in the past been named as the best performing Governor and has already declared his bid for the Presidency in 2022.

I know it's a good thing and it's meant to be an achievement, but something critical in me, that kavoice, is asking, are they talking of one toilet? For the whole of Mlolongo? To shut up that voice, I say, if there were 10 teams in different locations at the same time, that would have been 10 toilets in 7-days...ah .. sounds better....guess that is the message. Now I know, it's easier to tarmac a road than build a toilet..:)

Appreciate one thing at a time.So next time he becomes president of Kenya, you will say what? That he should have doubled up as Kenya and Tanzania president?

In our current Kenya, such a toilet would take 5-10 years to be build at a cost that is a thousand times it's worth. Remember the wheelbarrow that cost over 100K or the ball points that cost over 80 shillings at the NYS?

I still find that article scanty... When you, @sokola, talk COST, and I QUANTITY (block of toilets or just uno baño) we are saying THIS INFORMATION,AS IS, IS NOT TELLING US ANYTHING. More details are needed for us to KNOW if it's a job well done or not.. unless SPEED was the only parameter been assessed.

actually if the plumbing is already inplace the rest could take even 5 depending on how solid and esthetic one wants it to be.thia is not ahouse to live in so walls could be of asheet iron.iam sure mutua is mindful of safely as well

The fact that in 2018 we are still celebrating the most basic thing as a toilet is so sad. Other countries are putting cars in the orbit suffice to say we are young but 50 + years and toilets are our great achievements in the grassroots. Also 2 days would have me worried about the construction of such a structure... However wananchi walifurahi so let me not rain on their parade. This devt should have Mutua relected....sigh....

But we are champions in corruption and tribalism.Haven't you heard people describing thugs from their tribes as capitalists? Our little brains are our worst enemies. Can you explain how thugs and murderers become our tribal heroes?How/why is muuaji Raila a hero to his next victims after killing 1300 Kenyans?90 % of today's elite are thugs but our use of mucus for brains reasons it's ok for Kibaki,Wanjigi,Uhuru,Kirubi to loot from the govt because they are Gikuyu like me.Ati they represent me.MAI MAYA/NGUI ICI

Very good point Mbingu.Afriend who visited Kenya once asked me if we ever teach hygiene to our children. When I acted shocked by the question, he said that he could not understand why people would shit on the floor of the toilet...,and it happened in just about all public restrooms he visited. This was awhile ago.But i doubt if that"culture" has changed much.

You can fast track development but you cannot microwave it! where was the plan to build the toilet(s) three weeks ago? two months ago? With all due respect to my Daktari, plans for such basics must have been in place long time ( and so someone must have procrastinated for far too long) otherwise why this haste? Quality things take time to build. You must have missed a step called planning and failing to plan is planning to fail. Chap Chap is not cheap cheap, there is an "e" for expense in terms of long term utility and sustainability.

Talk of a shithole Governor, the former Nyandarua County Governor Waithaka build four public toilets at the cost of four billion shillings which was ninety five percent of the allotment the county government got from the central government and it took him four years to accomplish that. That was the only project he initiated in the county as if Nyandaruans had everything but public toilets. Nyandarua is the third least developed county in Kenya. Governor Mutua is an asset for Kenya and he leads by example. Mutua for Kenya President!!!

Dr.if Waithaka actually wasted money like that,he should be forced to go and find out how Mutua did it, and refund to the county the excess that was used on his project.
Yes Mutua is a guiding light.Ifit can be done in Machakos, certainly it can be replicated in any corner of Kenya.

@ DrKoni hanene,4 public toilets for ksh 4 billion????The level of corruption in Kenya in the current day & age is absurd! They must be some state of the art toilets where you walk in it takes your clothes off,you do the business,it cleans you out and puts your clothes back on & you walk out a very happy mwanachi to say the least.

Well done Mutua though it is good practice not to pat your back as you did. Why tweet your achievements.?
You have failed in so many areas e.g Piping water frm Iveti hills (which is plenty and natural) to Masii and Wamunyu areas frm Tala to Mwala thro Maiuni. Sink boreholes around Kaliluni and Kusyomuomo coz there is plenty of water and pipe it to the dry areas of Machakos county. Tks for the toilet and water thereof.
