It's Not Easy Being a Deputy, William Ruto Says

Deputy President William Ruto has admitted that it is not easy to be someone's deputy because one has to put aside his political ambitions.

Speaking when he officially closed the 5th annual Devolution Conference in Kakamega on Thursday morning, the Deputy President sought to give a word of advice to Deputy Governors, who have often found themselves at loggerheads with Governors, especially those with intentions of inheriting their bosses.

“As a deputy myself I have some advice for my colleagues - Deputy Governors - it is a difficult job, you have to balance between your ambition and serving your boss,” he told the delegates who responded with a round of applause.

Ruto noted that deputies have a critical role in leadership, and rallying behind their bosses should not be viewed as a sign of weakness.

“My brothers and sisters the governors, I want to tell you, the devil is a very bad man and you know the kind of loss and the kind of damage he can cause with an idle mind,” he said.

“So, to avoid the great risk of the devil engaging idle minds in your offices because you have kept your deputies jobless, please, it is important that the relationship between governors and their deputies is worked out to avoid idle minds so hat the devil does not have any idle mind to drive any evil agenda," Ruto added in an apparent defence to Kirinyaga deputy governor Peter Ndambiri's viral explicit video.
