Top Kenyan UN Official Bashes Nairobians for Choosing Mike Sonko Over Peter Kenneth as their Governor

United Nations Trade chief Mukhisa Kituyi says that former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth would have been the person to transform Nairobi as a Governor.
Speaking at Citizen TV's JKL show hosted by Jeff Koinange on Wednesday, Kituyi, who is the Secretary-General of United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) said Governor Mike Sonko was a poor choice by Nairobi residents.
“It’s not up to me to tell people of Nairobi who they should have but I have stated my position before election,” Dr Kituyi told JKL show.
“I thought Peter Kenneth was very good to be governor for Nairobi and nothing has happened since the election period that has proven me wrong," He said blaming Kenyans’ “political irrationality” for the mess in the Capital city.
He said it was wrong for Nairobi residents to complain on how the city is currently being run, yet they are the ones who elected their Governor.
“You listen to Nairobi people you wouldn’t believe these are the people who voted for Sonko. Where were they during the elections? They were in polling booths,” he said.
Sonko has been blaming his predecessor, former Governor Evans Kidero for the problems the city is experiencing at the moment.
Questioning Nairobians’ choice for the Governor seat in the August 8th, 2017 polls, Kituyi said, “Did we hate Kidero because he was a Luo or because he was a bad governor? Have we found solutions to answer Kidero’s weakness?”
The former Kimilili MP presided over the 14th UNCTAD conference held in Nairobi in 2017, attended by over 7,000 delegates. Dr Kituyi was last year elected to the position for a second four-year term after recommendation by the UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

Nairobians are lying in a bed of their own making. They went to the ballot and elected Sonko. It is what it is and they should stick it out. Buyer's remorse is for developed countries, we Kenyans are used to this type of leaders. Until we change our voting ways, we should just assume the position and get f@#&ed until we wise up.

Mukisa, iam not even going to address you as Dr.There was election and Narobians picked their candidate. Its not even ayear and you are on Sonko.Let him finish his term then assess the results.Thats what Nairobians did after giving kidero achance. And you wondering if kidero lost because he is aluo ,revisit his record.Luos did not elect kidero-Nairobians did.If peter has workable solutions to what troubles Nairobians,I am Sonko would listen to them.Or you for that matter.Nairobi has too many problems that did not start yesterday, and will take alongtime and money to solve. It if was easy it would have been done long time ago

Mr Mukhisa Kituyi, you do not need to bash Nairobians. They made a choice not you. It's a democracy. When people make a choice, they will change that choice when time comes and when they deem it necessary. How can you bash a multitude of people and dare tell them they made the wrong choice. Give the person elected a chance to perform and tell your good candidate if he has any good suggestions to forward them to Sonko. He wanted to serve the people. He can still do so by offering suggestions to the current governor while he is waiting for next elections. The will of a people cannot be changed by one individual. Let's all give the necessary support to Sonko and wish him well as he performs.

A million WRONGS can never equal one RIGHT.....just coz multitudes elected Sonko doesn’t mean they did the right thing. They may have exercised their democratic right yes but they elected an idiot like themselves to lead the city. The African has a deficient intellect that has perpetually kept him in the hole as other countries move forward. Call a spade a spade - the average IQ for Africans is muuuuch much lower than that of other world citizens. You can hang me for this if you want

Mlachake. The average IQ of black people( Not only Africans) is literally double digits. We have the highest ability to memorize and cram all what other races around the world have discovered. BUT we can't utilize that knowledge independently,we constantly need supervision Did you know by 2020 Africa we will be the leading continent with Ph.D. Holders? Guess what? Ni vitendawili tu. We hate ourselves , hate even our own beautiful land and weather no wonder nobody wants to stay there, everybody is ready to go and freeze overseas and even die there but not in Africa. We should keep praying may be God will cleanse the Curse we had during the creation.

@Maxiley now you are twisting what the Dr said. He said it's not up to him what Nairobians chose. He is simply stating his opinion which is simply different from those who see Sonko in a different view. If I may add to the Dr's msg; since when did a blind person lead a person with a 20/20 eyesight? Answer: only when the 20\20 eyesight person believes they are blind.
On a serious note Mailey, you know very well what our colonial masters do when they want a country like ours to do their dirty laundry or when they want to get that gold, diamond, tourism, oil,tea from you? They study hard what they will give you for free and then lowball you and get your stuff for a penny to the dollar. They get their financial and political advisers and figure exactly how they will get deal with you. Of course they "lobby" and give you bread spread with processed avocado from your garden and go home happy but what about the country?
35-40 years ago, we were on the same economic level as was South Korea. Today, we are still matching on the same spot while South Korea has become an economic giant. The reason is simple; electing Sonkos and Rutos and then we keep complaining after we elect them. Put people in places they can do well and understand. Why would the president retire a major general and then make him in charge of Kenya Airways just to give an example.

@Maxiley What this means is we have an "uneducated" electorate that does not see the future for themselves and their kids. An electorate than odes not see farther than the length of their nose. Until we start electing officials whose qualify for the positions. If tribe, brother\sister or relative is the qualification to hire someone, Kenya will stay where it is for many years. You can come with 2000,2010,2030 and future Visions, but if you have people like Waititu, Sonko and almost 90 % of elected officials sitting across an economic summit table with counterparts from US, Israel and the like, we are doomed. These countries don't give you anything for free. Infact the free goodies that we get from these countries come from ourselves. Ask me how. You have a thousand applicatnt for Visa to travel to these countries every week for example. That is 15 million shillings. Multiply that by 52 weeks and you get a billion. Now you tell me when we get 2 used 50 year old war planes we are doing good? The good money (tourism, agriculture) that we get from these countries is not more than 5% because all that money does not leave those countries. Tourism is one area were foreigners pay for travel packages at their home countries and bring 100 dollars to tip their bus boys. All the other money from air tickets to accomondation does not cross the ocean to Kenya.

Right. Kidero messed up Nairobi, with all his papers to show. Sonko might have not shown much leadership, this far, he has no papers to show either, but it would be easier to explain Sonko's non-performance, when the time comes, than Kidero's.
Oh how hopeful Kenyans were when Kidero was elected....a super educated guy...who had just messed Mumias Sugar and was handed an opportunity to redeem himself in the eyes of Kenyans...but nada. Kenyans, I included, are a screwed lot...damned if they do, damned if they don't.

I personally still think Sonko will do a good job n I will judge him after 3 years coz that kinda enough time to b familiar with what is rotten n start to provide beta solutions which should b seen by many of us who leaves in n around Nairobi.
Peter Kenneth did a good job when he was gatanga mp but that he lost his brains thinking he can win Nairobi against Sonko who had helped many constituencies around Nairobi who loves him.Politics is about the numbers thou it should b followed by development minded leaders.Dr Kituyi u were one of my favourite leaders I admire but yr comment was out of order.Majority of the pple made choice so let’s them leave with it.U don’t get born n same day start walking or eating githeri so let’s give Sonko time.

We, the people of Africa need to sit down and work together to solve our challenging issues. When the IEBC clears people with a questionable past, what do you expect?
We have allowed foreign institutions developed by other minds to be part of our solutions in meeting our very extremely challenging issues.
Let us have the courage to admit that a man of "Sonko's" background is totally incapable of solving or dealing with Nairobi's problems.
We (the people of Kenya) must meet together as equals without looking into our languages and cultures of origin to deal with our pressing issues. We must get rid of the "CID" that means: Christianity, Islam, and Democracy. These foreign institutions were not meant for the Africans people, land, and economy! They were meant to divide us and make it almost impossible for us to get along or sit together at the table of sharing ideas or brainstorming in order to forge ahead together as Kenyans.

You are right in every manner. Except for the CID, I would go even further and say, make all religious entities taxable or get rid of them. Let us use our brains to create an environment good for job creation. Let us be secular and humanist and stop thinking that deities will do the hard work for us. Societies that have shun mystics are doing well. So should we.
