Two JKIA Staff Caught on Camera Stealing Luggage Straps Arrested [Video]

Police have arrested two Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) employees who were caught on camera stealing luggage straps.

The two, identified as Evans Akola Agunda and Mercy Chepkorir were captured on camera stealing the items at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) says that Akola works as an aircraft marshaller while Chepkorir is an intern.

In a video shared online by the DCI, Akola is seen alighting from a Toyota vehicle, walks to where the straps are kept and pick a couple of them before driving away.

His female colleague believed to be Chepkorir does not leave the car during the incident. The luggage straps belong to African Freight Services.

The DCI says the two will be arraigned and charged in court on Monday.

“An Aircraft Marshaller Kenya Airports -Mr. Evans Okola Agunda and an intern-Ms. Mercy Chepkorir, were arrested early today after being spotted stealing luggage straps belonging to the African Freight Services at JKIA."

"The two suspects are in custody and will be charged on Monday,” DCI says in a statement.

Luggage straps are elastic bands used in airports to wrap luggage in preparation for shipping via airplanes. They are used to prevent luggage from popping open during transit.

It's bad alright. But compared to millions that are being stolen from public coffers, this is a drop in the ocean.

Why would the intern be arrested? Any evidence of collusion? Perhaps she may not have been aware or was in a position to control the illegal activities.

How l wish the DCI would apply similar tenacity on mega loots! It’s a pity that only these petty thieves are usually caught and go to prison while mega looters are always smiling to the bank with disregard and even when taken to court after public outcry there’s always no evidence. Judges are usually only pleased with petty theft evidence but never seem to be pleased with evidence involving anyone who has stolen millions! Sad!!

'The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy". What is the value of the thing they are stealing? I guess not much.
