Woman Who Gave Birth on the Floor at Shalom Hospital Speaks, Wants the Man Behind Viral Video Arrested

The woman who gave birth on the floor at Shalom Hospital in Athi River over the weekend has defended the facility's nurses against allegations of negligence.

Speaking to Citizen TV from the hospital bed, the woman has blamed the man who filmed the incident, stating that the nurses are innocent.

She notes that there was no negligence since the baby came out immediately she arrived at the hospital and there is nothing the health workers could have done.

“Haikukua vile mliskia huko nje… Ilikua dakika ya mwisho na hakuna kuzuia sasa nlifika hivi na hakukua otherwise. Vile nilifika hivi kwa hospitali, mtoto akatoka. So hakuna mwenye alinibeba vibaya hakuna mwenye alikua amelegea. Sasa mimi nasema mwenye ameshikwa aachiliwe. Hakuna mwenye ako na makosa,” she says.

(The incident was misreported. Everything happened so quickly and soon as I got to the hospital the baby came out. No one mishandled me. Please release the nurses who have been arrested. They did not do anything wrong.)

She wants the man who recorded the incident arrested. “The one who recorded the video should be arrested. I even thought he is a doctor. He has really offended me.”

On Monday, the hospital’s administrator Thomas Ndolo was arrested alongside two nurses identified as Edna Nyarangi and John Ndege.

Police said Ndolo was arrested for alleged negligence while the nurses are accused of operating without licenses.

Their arrest came after health officials from the Machakos County Government, Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board (KMPDB) and Nurses Union toured the facility to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“It is our findings as a team that there were issues of negligence within the institution and how the patient was treated,” said Dr. Nelly Bosire.

The man who filmed the incident claimed that the nurses watched and enjoyed their tea as the woman labored despite being informed that it was an emergency case.

In the viral video, the man is heard scolding the nurses for neglecting the woman.

“Why have you let the baby fall on the floor, while you are just taking tea?” poses the man in the video.

The power of corruption. Even in death this woman does care. She got paid. The video is clear and convincing. It was taken without prejudice and the intent was not malice. This lady should tell us how much she got paid. Bure kabisa

Wow!!!!! What a twist. Just come out clean and tell us how much was offered to you by the facility. I can’t believe what she’s saying. Umekula hela wacha zako. Bure kabisa and the situation you and your innocent baby were in was a matter of life and death. Actually, some of our people keep on complaining how we are offered sub-standard services from both the government and health care facilities in our beloved country Kenya and now look at this situation. She knows very well she’s lying and she is trying to sympathize and covering up the facility and the nurses. Sema umekula ngapi story iishe!!!

Kenya. Ukenya. Wakenya. Wakiri akili, wakiri mjanja, wakiri mfisadi fisadi. Hivi ndivyo tulivyo tukiwa Wakenya. Tunajifanya na kuwafanya wengine wapumbavu wasiojua wakijui?

I believe what this lady is saying. When the baby has to come out it is unstoppable even if it is in the process of admission. If I were that woman I would have as well been offended and embarrassed by that video. Whoever took it did it could have done it in bad faith. She's still in the hospital recovering and there is no way she could have been paid at the height of investigations. I believe her story.

She lady is loaded. Amechotewa na hosi so that she will not sue them. There is no reverse gear in this case. Nurses were caught practicing without license. What about the person who is seen in the video giving those nurse musomo?

Ona sasa. She’s been paid. We can’t stop this nonsense with the kind of people. The man was right to record. I didn’t see anyone running to her aid. Video speaks so she should shut up! We’re goimg by the lady heard dressing the workers down coz we could actually see what’s she was verbalizing. It’s out of the victims hands.

Did anyone hear " mtoto ameanguka" in the video? Does this hospital not have emergency services to handle such cases? Do you sit and take tea because after all mtoto ametoka? We must stop defending laziness and get serious

Foolish woman. A baby falling on the floor is not a joke. She does know a baby can get a disability out of that. Kuchotewa few coin cannot solve that.

This lady does not know what she is saying!. She might be the mother of corruption. The hospital services knowing the situation of on coming patients they should have welcome staff from the entrance in case of anything. On behalf of all those thought this bravery man did the right thing I salute this man.
I think it is highly time to introduce bodily cameras for mwananchi when going for public services. Negligence, corruption and poverty seems to be a cancer in our loved country.
We may not be in those big offices but can tell when things are going wrong.
ThE first statement had read that those nurses were informed that there was an emergency. Then what happened? And someone want to put this innocent guy into trouble!. That's not right and we will never shape our country.
