State Department Releases Statistics on Numbers of Green Card Winners (DV-2020) By Country

The US State Department has released a breakdown by country of winners of the DV-2020 Diversity Visa, popularly known as the Green Card Lottery.

The State Department says out of 14,722,798 applicants from around the world who participated in the DV-2020 lottery, 83,884 applicants won the lottery and may now make an application for an immigrant visa (green card).

The top five countries that won the most immigrant visas are Egypt (5,568 winners), Russia (5,118), the Democratic Republic of Congo (4,743), Iran (4,101), Nepal (3,696), and Sudan (3,691).

Other countries with the high numbers of winners included Algeria (2,745) Turkey (2,709), Cuba (2,703),  and Morocco (2,202).

Kenya had 1,801 winners.

The Diversity Visa program makes 50,000 permanent resident visas (green cards) available to nationals of countries with low immigration rates to the United States.

Winners of DV-2020 participated in the lottery registration period that was open online at the dvlottery.state.gov website between October 3rd, 2018 and November 6th, 2018. Those who participated in the lottery have until September 30, 2020 to check online if they won.

In order to migrate to the United States on a green card, winners are required to submit an online Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration Application (DS-260) to be scheduled for an interview at the US embassies or consulates located in their home countries, and to have received an immigrant visa by September 30, 2020.

Kenyan's who want to move to the western countries, please do your research of the place you are going. If you are old, settled and have a family, do not move. Check harsh weather changes and conditions of where you intend to move to. Learn the history of the "so called black man in that country" Racism is at all times high. The west is making their countries white again. If you are too young, do no move either, you may not be able to deal with racism. Research, and more research. Talk to your relatives, friends and family and learn. Use available resources, Google, YouTube; Do not trust the hyped up news (fake news about anywhere) Now information is everywhere. Your money does not give you privileges, you are treated like your "so called black brothers" in those countries . Buyer be aware! If you can afford, and you know someone, visit before you decide to move. Do not sell anything in order to move. Research first. Consider the quality of life. (Education, is no longer everything- and especially wrong education). It's not just getting papers and moving. There is more to it.

I dont believe the internet is the best place to do a research.According to youtube cops are always after the black man.WRONG.I think the best way to do a research is by asking friends who are already in the US.Ask as many as you can.As far as i believe racism is political propagada and for that reason stay a way from so called CNN and Fox.If you're you win a green card please grab that opportunity with both hands. You can always go back if you dont like it.

All of those trying to discourage inmigrants from coming to this country (USA) are working towards white washing it. Dont lisen. Inmigrate legally and you will be more than fine.

Totally wrong comment. Success and failure is all in ones head. The United States does not discriminate. We ourselves are foreigners and never ever felt so for the past 20 years. The US is one of the most advanced well developed Countries in the entire world. If someone, especially a foreigner, doesn’t succeed in life being in the US chances are they will not succeed any where. It offers the best of the best in everything: education, quality of life, infrastructure, health & wellness, jobs for anyone and everyone, a Passport that one can carry with pride etc etc. A great Country to live, work and raise families by the Grace of the Almighty Lord!!

Wonderful advice.
Don't just move, visit first.

But I totally disagree with the racism view.

Those who cry racism are just cowards who can't do anything on their own, they just rely on another race, so when they don't receive those favors, they accuse them to be racists.
Is that your story.

What the President & the REPUBLICANS are doing is to prevent the whole United States of America to be like Baltimore, Maryland.

That was the direction she was heading to, thanks be to God, He brought a tuff, Man, TRUMP.

You come back! Stop misleading others or trying to be an alarmist. US and Africa is like day and night, you cannot compare the two at any point. Whether or not you are old, US is still far better than kenya, if you get this chance, grab it with all your everything.

Wacha kuvunja watu moyo...those who enter legitimately have golden opportunities if they are go getters. But if you have family issues and then you can't agree on your own family values, stay off. Opportunities are open...good workers for all walks of life are needed...growth is fast for those who step on the right foot.

To: Persons in charge of correctness of the contents of the published news:-
How come you start with 5 top countries, but finishing up with listing 6 countries!?
Further you indicate 50000 winners a year, but end up stating 86000+ winners for the year 2020.
Would appreciate your clarification.

Parts of the US are in fact racist. Tiny little parts. I grew up in inner city Houston, public school system, we were 1/3 black, 1/3 white, 1/3 hispanic, rest asian mainly.

My black peers have done great. Our International Baccaulaureate program graduated huge numbers of blacks into ivy league universities.

Our swim team captain, Anthony, went to university, got an MBA at Rice, worked with me at ExxonMobil.

Sure, racism is a thing on the street, in yhe hood, and especially on the news, but anyone black, smart, and motivated rises above and has the same (if not more) opportunity to succeed.

I've been to Africa. Whites have 100 times the priveledge there as here. I don't wonder how far a black person can go in this country. Thanks Obama!

I have a hunch a recist wrote the post to discourage black immigration. Otherwise, I'm at a loss.

And, for the record, with a US passport you have a ticket to the whole world. No one makes anyone stay here.

Friends, what's the problem with being discriminated in the USA? after all, it is a white man's country. What's of more important is that if one happens to get a job, the pay is way better than a person who works in their African countries with a paycheck that cannot even afford basic needs!
