Governor Sonko Responds to Man who Spent Sh130K to Advertise Himself for Nairobi Deputy Governor Post

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has responded to a Kenyan man who spent Sh130,000 to advertise himself for Deputy Governor post.
In an advert titled ‘Expression of Interest’, Philip Chogoti Chepsat pleaded with Governor Sonko to appoint him to the position that was left vacant following the resignation of former Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe in January 2018.
In the advert published in Daily Nation newspaper on Wednesday, Chepsat said he is a university graduate with more than 15 years of experience in public service, hence fit to take up the position.
“I have reached out to you (Governor Sonko) openly because I am not sure if my earlier communication did reach you. I also know that you cherish openness and transparency. I am driven by a strong conviction that I could make a significant contribution to your efforts to improve Nairobi city,” read the ad in the Daily Nation newspaper.
If appointed, Chepsat vowed to perform beyond the expectations of Governor Sonko and those of Nairobi residents.
“I look forward to your kind consideration to make me part of the leadership in Nairobi county. I vow to meet if not exceed, your expectations and the expectations of the residents of Nairobi County,” he stated.
Responding to Mr. Chepsat through a social media post, Sonko said he intends to appoint a woman to fill the position.
“It is worthy of note that as a politician, I believe in keeping my promises to the electorate. And earlier, I committed myself to Nairobians that my nominee for Nairobi City County’s Next Deputy Governor shall be a woman.”
“Too bad you are not a woman because I intend to keep that promise to my women supporters at all costs because I believe in not only upholding the third gender rule but exceeding it. This is why half of Nairobi County executive members are women,” said Sonko.
He encouraged Chepsat to apply for soon to be advertised positions since he is planning to fire a number of his Cabinet members.
“My appeal to you is not to give up on your dream to serve in the leadership of Nairobi County but to keep checking up and applying as vacancies come up. For example, I shall soon be sending home several nonperforming Members of County Executive Committee and Chief Officers who are sleeping on the job and you should be on the standby to apply when the County Public Service Board advertises to fill the position,” Sonko noted.

Kenyan's are tired of these leaders who are holding their position as "Public Servants" but instead of performing, they keep advertising themselves, their families and their riches. It's no longer about you, it's about your citizenry and what you do for those that you represent. Please, do not tell us the degrees you received, how much wealth you and your families have accumulated, tell us how many additional kids have an opportunity to go to school since you took over; what real and not imaginary developments have taken place in your constituency since you took over. It's about your position, not about you. If you are not there tomorrow, the position will be there filled by another Kenyan. Leave a legacy, not of you and your family but of the performance of that position.

It is commendable that Sonko wants to keep is"political promise". How many politicians keep their promises anyway.
Anyways, my wish would that, let's hire the best candidate for that position. If its a woman, foreigner, man so be it .We need results-positive I might add.Bus since men have performed poorly, including Sonko himself, except personally, let's give awoman achance.I may be naive, but my feeling is that woman are less corrupt than men,and also less as sexual abusers. They are mostly always victims. And in today's world, they are just as qualified as men. They have broken the glass ceiling ...

I would support a constitutional amendment to address appointment of Deputy Governors incase of a vacancy. Its crazy that one person can hold a whole county at ransom. Not sure what would happen to the County leadership if Mr Sonko was to be charged with corruption.

Sonko, being that you maybe one of those getting a free ride to the US, you may need a deputy governor to take over from you during your visit. Nairobi is bigger than you.
