No Onboard Meals, Kenya Airways Says as it Resumes Domestic Flights
Kenya Airways (KQ) has announced no meals will be served to passengers on board as the airline resumes domestic flights on Wednesday.
KQ CEO Allan Kilavuka said the move is aimed at reducing human contact within the flight to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
“For short-haul flights, we have reduced the need for meals and that is no that we do not want to give meals, but just because we want to reduce the contact between people,” said Kilavuka.
He disclosed that the airline will first operate two flights daily to the coastal city of Mombasa and one to Kisumu before making a decision on whether or not to increase frequencies based on various factors including demand and safety.
Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has assured travelers that it has implemented the Covid-19 containment measures and protocols issued by the Health Ministry.
“I would like to assure the public that Kenya Airports Authority has put in place the recommended health and safety protocols and we are ready to reconnect with our airport users,” said KAA Managing Director Alex Gitari.
“These protocols will be evaluated and updated whenever necessary. Accordingly, we request passengers and airport users to familiarize themselves and strictly observe the new protocols to safeguard the health and safety of all airport users,” he added.
Last week, President Uhuru directed the resumption of local and international flights beginning July 15th and August 1st respectively.
Kenya suspended all passenger flights three months ago following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

I would be more concerned about the pressurized air in the cabin, than food. There is so far little evidence to suggest that Corona is spread via food. But it is definitely spread by breathing in air and water vapor that has been breathed out by an infected person. At 30,000ft, The air in an Aeroplane has to be heated, pressurized, and circulated throughout the cabin. The shortest long haul flight is about 7 or 8 hours in the air, breathing the same circulating air... what if just one person onboard is infected?

... If you have flown in an Aeroplane, @Ex diasporan, it takes 8 hours to fly from Europe to Nairobi, and 15 hours plus, to fly from North America, to Kenya. If you don't eat in an Aeroplane, for 15 hours, and you are still alive, where is your food supposed to come from? We have to accept the Scientific Truth. Airline Travel will not fully resume until, or unless a cure for Coronavirus is found.
