Nairobi National Park Expanded by 49,000 Acres

The Nairobi National Park has acquired 49,000 more acres of land, increasing its total size to 78,000 acres.

This comes after the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) and Swara Plains Conservancy declared 32,000 and 15,000 acres  respectively for wildlife conservation in Machakos County.

The government also gave 2,000 acres of land from Sheep and Goat Ranch to Nairobi National Park, whose title deed will be under the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS).

The two ranches will provide a wildlife corridor to interconnect Nairobi National Park, Swara, and ILRI conservancies.

Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala while handing over registration certificates to the two conservancies pointed out that the corridor will be essential since the Nairobi National Park is not big enough to satisfy the ecological requirements of its wildlife population throughout the year.

“On the Northern side, we are looking into acquiring 1,500 acres of land to extend the Nairobi National Park to Ngong Forest. We hope that all this will enable Nairobi National Park to be listed and declared a world heritage site,” said Balala.

Kenya wildlife don't need more land. Western countries pushing and blackmailing us to expand the game reserves while they keep their wildlife in zoos and reserve land for human settlement and industry. Our animals roam in excessively large national parks while our people and industries are sqeezed in tiny lots.Any wonder that land in Kenya is priced higher than the United States? It's time we revised our priorities and values and stop listening to these neo.colonials

From observation the white land grabbers have been better maintaining the environment than black land grabbers.
