NYS Candidates Asked to Produce Covid-19-Free Certificates During This Year's Recruitment

Kenyan youths wishing to take part in this year’s National Youth Service (NYS) recruitment have been asked to present a Covid-19 free certificate.
NYS director-general Matilda Sakwa explained that the new measure is aimed at preventing the spread of Covid-19 during and after the recruitment process.
This year’s recruitment exercise will be done in 333 centers across the country between November 2nd and November 6th.
Successful candidates will join NYS Colleges at Gilgil and Naivasha for basic paramilitary training on dates specified in respective admission letters.
Sakwa said special preference will be given to orphans who meet requirements upon presentation of sufficient proof such as parents’ death certificates or burial permits.
She also said the one-third gender rule, where at least 33 percent of recruits must be of either gender, will be followed as required by the constitution.
Candidates must meet certain requirements including being Kenyan citizens, undergo medical checkups during and after recruitment, be fit, have a KCSE certificate with a minimum grade of D, present original and photocopies of the national ID, and academic certificates.
They must also be aged between 18 and 26, provide a valid certificate of good conduct, and be ready to give voluntary service in any part of the country.
