Centenarian Contracts COVID-19 as Kenya Battles Third Wave

A centenarian is among over 700 people who are the latest to contract COVID-19 in Kenya.

On Sunday, the Health Ministry announced 747 new COVID-19 infections, raising the total caseload to 120,910.

The new cases comprise 710 Kenyan nationals and 37 foreigners, with 396 patients being male while 351 are female. The youngest patient is aged seven months old while the oldest is 101.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said 121 patients are admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 32 of whom are on ventilator support and 86 on supplemental oxygen. 18 patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

At the same time, the death toll from the virus hit 2,011 after 17 new fatalities were reported.

The country is currently battling a third wave of COVID-19 and reported 28 deaths on Friday, the highest daily toll since the pandemic began.
