KDF Recruitment: Man Arrested Trying to Bribe Military Officer with Sh400,000

A 23-year-old man was on Monday arrested in Kakamega for allegedly trying to bribe a Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) officer in the ongoing countrywide military recruitment.

The KDF officer became suspicious after the man, who had turned up for the recruitment exercise in Malava, displayed his palm written Sh400,000.

It is suspected that he was intending to offer the amount as a bribe to the recruiting officer. The suspect was arrested immediately and handed over to civil police.

“KDF reiterates that any form of corruption is not allowed in the recruitment exercise and that the process is free and fair to all eligible Kenyans,” the Ministry of Defense said in a press release.

The recruitment exercise began on Monday and is ongoing in 327 sub-counties across all 47 counties.

KDF is seeking to recruit officers in six categories namely; General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets, General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets (Graduate), Specialist Officer Cadets, General Duty (GD) Recruit, Tradesmen/Women and, Defense Forces Constables.

Speaking during the launch of the recruitment drive, Vice Chief of the Defense Forces Lieutenant General Francis Ogolla asked Kenyans to be cautious of fraudsters masquerading as KDF officers soliciting bribes and issuing fraudulent calling letters.

He urged members of the public to report any misdeeds or interference in the process to the recruiting teams, the nearest police station, or through the KDF hotline numbers 0726419709 or 0120300595.

The exercise which ends on November 26th is being supervised by the Chief Recruiting Officer Brigadier George Okumu.

Yes, got suspicious that that might have been a set-up.. but truth be told; that is the order of the day for KDF (say Forces) recruitment in Kenya.
