Raila and Ruto Appoint Kindiki Brothers as Presidential Agents

Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga has appointed lawyer Saitabu Ole Kanchori as his Chief Agent in the August 9th presidential election.

Kanchori will be deputized by Nyeri Deputy Governor Dr. Caroline Karugu, Prof. Isaiah Wa Kindiki, Dr. Oduor Ong’wen, and lawyer Paul Mwangi.

Interestingly, Prof. Isaiah Wa Kindiki is the elder brother of Prof. Kithure Kindiki, who was named the Chief Agent of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) presidential candidate William Ruto on Saturday.

Kithure, who currently serves as the Senator for Tharaka-Nithi County, finished second in the race for Ruto’s running mate after Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua.

Odinga, who is giving his fifth stab at the presidency, was on Sunday cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to run for president in the August 9th elections alongside his running mate Martha Karua. The two presented their nomination papers to IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati at Bomas of Kenya and were issued with a clearance certificate.

Odinga expressed confidence that the IEBC has the capacity to deliver credible elections and pledged that his team will conduct itself appropriately during the electioneering period

“We have confidence that the IEBC has got the capacity to conduct free and fair elections, we, therefore urge you to live by the script and do exactly what the people of Kenya expect of you. We want to promise you that we are going to conduct ourselves as candidates in a manner that conforms with the requirements of the electoral laws,” he said.

Odinga, 77, became the fifth presidential candidate to be cleared to contest after Ruto, Prof. George Wajackoyah of Roots Party, Walter Mong'are of Umoja Summit Party, and lawyer David Mwaura Waihiga of the Agano party.
