Manhunt Launched as Serial Killer Collins Jumaisi and Fellow Inmates Escape Gigiri Police Station

Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, the primary suspect in the Kware quarry murders, has escaped from Nairobi's Gigiri Police Station.

Khalusha, who had admitted to killing at least six women whose bodies were discovered in Embakasi's Kware quarry, was among a group of 13 suspects who managed to break out of their cells early Tuesday morning. The escape has been confirmed by Nairobi Regional Commander Adamson Bungei who states that a manhunt has been initiated to recapture the fugitives. The incident came to light when police officers Evans Kipkirui and Gerald Mutuku, during their routine breakfast delivery, found that the inmates had cut through the wire mesh at the basking bay and fled.

Khalusha's escape is particularly concerning given the gravity of his alleged crimes. He was awaiting arraignment for plea-taking, scheduled for August 23, 2024. The court had previously ordered his detention at Gigiri Police Station for seven days while two co-accused, Amos Momanyi and Moses Ogembo, were remanded at Muthaiga Police Station. Khalusha confessed to murdering at least 42 women between 2022 and July 2024, with his first victim reportedly being his own wife. His arrest in July 2024 led to the discovery of numerous incriminating items at his rented accommodation in Kware, including weapons, communication devices, and items believed to be linked to his victims.

The Director of Criminal Investigations Mohamed Amin has assured the public of the police force's commitment to recapturing the escapees. For the families of Khalusha's victims, this development is a devastating setback having hoped that his arrest would bring closure and justice for their loved ones. After Khalusa's confession in July, the search for his origins in Vihiga County yielded more questions than answers. NTV's investigation into his alleged rural home proved fruitless, with locals and officials unable to identify him. Even in Shamakhokho market, where he reportedly worked as a boda boda operator, residents failed to recognize his image.

The mystery deepened in Malovi village where Boniface Karanja, a purported cousin, offered conflicting information. Karanja suggested that the family's connection to the suspect stems from a deceased uncle with a similar surname and that the individual in question, known as Ketrin Shiusa, left the village at age two with his mother after his parents' separation in 1992. This account contradicted the DCI's stated age for the suspect, raising doubts about the true identity of the alleged serial killer.

Is it Aril Fools Day? This was a big joke right from the start. This guy did not kill 42 women. To make the matter worse he was living in a mambati house and nobody heard those women screaming or saw them going to his house.
