Karua Condemns Raila Over Political Agreement with President Ruto

NARC-Kenya leader Martha Karua has expressed her discontent with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, accusing him of betrayal for aligning himself with President William Ruto's administration.

Karua contends that Odinga has exploited the Gen Z protests for his political gain instead of supporting the young activists as expected from a leader of the opposition. Karua articulates the disappointment felt by many, asserting that opposition leaders have a responsibility to advocate for the public, especially the youth who have been active in the fight for national issues.

“When we become opposition leaders, we owe a certain duty to Kenyans, whether or not, we are in the Gen Z moments, the Gen Zs who did the work and died for this country," Karua said while speaking in an Interview on NTV.

In a significant political move, Karua has confirmed her party's withdrawal from the Azimio coalition, pointing out that some coalition members had adopted the role of proponents for Ruto’s government. She specifically criticises Suna East MP Junet Mohamed and Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho for their perceived alignment with the ruling administration.

In addressing her rift with Odinga, Karua suggests that he should formalize his collaboration with Ruto through a post-election coalition agreement. She affirms the need for opposition leaders to uphold accountability and defend the rights of the populace against government actions.

"I call upon my friend and brother Raila Odinga to do the honourable thing, have a post-election coalition agreement with Ruto so that they are in government through a proper political marriage solemnised by the registrar of political parties," Karua suggested.

While Karua openly criticized Gachagua for misusing his governmental authority, she emphasized the importance of his right to a fair hearing during the impeachment process, highlighting the need for due process in political proceedings. Joho, John Mbadi (Treasury), and Junet Mohamed have emerged as defenders of President William Ruto’s administration, seeking to address public discontent stemming from policies perceived as unfavourable to the average citizen.

Once critics of the government, the former ODM party members shifted their stance after joining the administration in mid-2024. Lawmaker Junet recently sparked controversy by advocating for the elimination of public participation to expedite development projects, claiming it aligns with the government's agenda.

Also recently, Joho condemned social media critics as unpatriotic and warned of potential repercussions for negative posts, amid reports of a government initiative to manage online criticism. Their efforts come as they strive to stabilize Ruto’s political standing amid growing scrutiny.

this is not something new as far as Raila is concerned. He changes with seasons and any agreement/alliance is immaterial to him. You already knew him from before, Karua! Since 1992.

Martha, please understand the old idyet only looks out for himself and wants to always be in positions of power or he’s gathering poor folks to get them killed so he can get his next gig. I supported this dude for any years but now I wish he even loses the AU gig. What a shame.
