Kenyan Man in US Allegedly Shoots Wife During 911 Call, Then Takes Own Life

A Kenyan couple living in Guthrie, Oklahoma, died after a domestic dispute ended in a murder-suicide, according to local authorities.

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office reported that Meredith Kimani called 911 seeking assistance to remove her husband, Mark Kimani, from their home. The call was cut off, and deputies were dispatched immediately. On arrival, they found both husband and wife dead from gunshot wounds. Investigators believe Mark Kimani shot his wife several times before taking his own life.

The incident has left Guthrie’s Kenyan community in shock. Friends described Meredith as compassionate and resilient. Her close friend, Jamie Mungai, recalled their shared experiences as teenage mothers and spoke of her support during times of illness and loss.

Guthrie’s mayor, Adam Ropp, who had worked with Meredith, remembered her as a distinctive personality whose energy left a lasting impression. While many celebrate the opportunities America offers, cultural transitions and differing expectations around family life can create strain.

Some community members note that legal protections for women and children, though vital, can sometimes clash with traditional norms, leaving couples struggling to adapt. Similar cases have occurred in recent years, including incidents in New  Jersey and other states, where domestic violence within Kenyan immigrant families has ended in murder-suicides.
