Over 300 Kenyan Students Join UK Scholarship Mentorship Programme

More than 300 Kenyan students took part in a mentorship programme on 11 July aimed at helping them secure higher education opportunities in the United Kingdom.

The hybrid event was held at the University of Cambridge and brought together participants in person and online. Kenya's High Commissioner to the UK, Ambassador Maurice Makoloo, led the programme and said it was important to equip young Kenyans with the knowledge and support needed to access leading universities.

He said the initiative forms part of wider efforts to strengthen educational links between Kenya and the UK while giving students from different backgrounds an equal opportunity to compete for scholarships. The programme connected prospective applicants in Kenya with Kenyan students currently studying at the University of Cambridge.

The scholars shared practical advice on preparing scholarship applications, meeting admission requirements and adapting to academic life in the UK. Their experiences helped explain the application process and address common challenges faced by prospective students.

The initiative was organised through a partnership involving the University of Cambridge, the University of Nairobi, Nyandarua University and the Kenyan student community at Cambridge. The collaboration also highlighted the contribution of Kenyan students abroad in supporting those seeking similar opportunities.

The Kenyan High Commission said the mentorship programme is part of its continuing efforts to expand educational opportunities for young people. In addition to providing guidance on applications, the sessions are intended to help students build confidence and prepare stronger submissions for university admissions and scholarship programmes.
