Raila, Waiguru in Fresh Battle

John Wanjohi May 16, 2017

Opposition chief Raila Odinga has demanded a lifestyle audit be conducted on former Devolution cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru.

The National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential flag bearer has accused the Kirinyaga gubernatorial contestant of declining to respond to questions that will help him defend himself in a defamation suit filed by Waiguru.

Waiguru filed the suit on September 29, 2015 accusing the former Prime Minister of tarnishing her name in a press conference on July 17, 2015.

In the address, Raila accused Waiguru of orchestrating the National Youth Service (NYS) scandal where billions of shillings were lost, adding that she was being protected by the President.

Raila now claims that Waiguru has refused to respond to questions that would be instrumental in defending himself in the suit, asking the court to compel Waiguru to respond to the queries first. "I will be greatly prejudiced if these interrogatory questions are not answered as I will not be in a position to sufficiently prepare for trial," Raila says in a response filed at the Milimani High Court.

However, the Kirinyaga gubernatorial hopeful in response to Raila said that the ODM leader was being unreasonable and irrelevant. “He is employing tactics to stall the suit as the 15 questions do not relate to issues raised in the defamation suit. The information sought is malicious and threatens to unnecessarily violate the privacy of minors who are not party in this suit," she said.
