Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru Opens Up on Her Net Worth
Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru has revealed her net worth worth and defended herself against claims of being one of the most corrupt leaders in the country.
Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV's Jeff Koinange on Wednesday night, the Governor said she's worth less than Sh300 million.
“Let’s assume I’m the most corrupt and therefore I have acquired a lot of money from government which I am now using and so my value should be several billion shillings, isn’t it?” Posed Waiguru.
“It (IPSOS poll) is as ridiculous as it can be; the people you’re being ranked with are multi-billionaires… I haven’t even reached Sh300 million in terms of worth,” said the former Devolution CS.
She further defended herself against claims of being corrupt noting that the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) has carried out a lifestyle audit on her.
“They (EACC) swept my house… they’ve done a lifestyle audit on me for over a year, they can also make that public,” said Waiguru.
"There are those who have been pushing the corruption narrative and they have found it difficult to recant it. I have a property in Mlolongo, half an acre in Lukenya, another rentable half an acre in Sagana, a house in Runda and Kihiga," she said during an interview at Citizen TV on Wednesday night.
In an Ipsos survey results released last week, respondents named Waiguru as the second most corrupt leader in the country behind Deputy President William Ruto.
33 per cent of Kenyans said they perceive Ruto as the most corrupt followed by Waiguru at 31 per cent. Retired President Daniel arap Moi was third (17%) followed by President Kenyatta (11%) and Opposition leader Raila Odinga.
2,016 adults from across the country were interviewed in the survey between July 25th and August 2nd.
