Canadian Citizen, Four Kenyans Linked to 14 Riverside Terror Attack Detained for 30 Days

Five suspects linked to Tuesday's DusitD2 complex terror attack in 14 Riverside Drive in Westlands, Nairobi have on Friday been arraigned in court.

The five, who include a Canadian national and four Kenyans, have been arraigned in Milimani Law Court under a miscellaneous application for police to conclude investigations before charges are leveled against them.

Principal Magistrate Martha Mutuku has allowed police to detain the five suspects for a period of 30 days pending completion of investigations.

The five are identified as Guleid Abdihakim (Canadian), Joel Ng’anga Wainaina, Oliver Kanyango Muthee, Gladys Kaari Justus, and Osman Ibrahim.

The Magistrate has also allowed investigators to detain the suspects at police stations of their choice.

“The team of investigators has so far covered considerable ground in the investigations and upon preliminary review of the investigations file, I am satisfied there is probable cause to continue with investigations against all suspects," the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji says in a statement.

Haji further says the investigations are complex and transnational and requires a lot of time and resources to unravel the syndicate. 

The matter will be mentioned on Feb 18th, 2019.

Somalia-based terrorist organization Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack, which left 21 people dead, citing United States President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israeli's capital.
