Police in Bungoma are in hot pursuit of Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa after he allegedly shot and killed his competitor Brian Khaemba’s aide.

Barasa is said to have shot Khaemba’s aide Brian Olunga at Chebukwabi polling station at around 6.00 pm on Tuesday, according to a police report.

Khaemba, who is eyeing the Kimilili parliamentary seat on a DAP-K ticket, had gone to the polling station to witness the counting of the votes but he found Barasa there and decided to leave.

Barasa then followed him in the company of four men and ordered them to block Khaemba from leaving. Khaemba’s driver identified as Joshua Nasokho defied the order and ignited the vehicle.

“Didmus Barasa withdrew a pistol and aimed at Mr. Khaemba's aide namely Brian Olunga and shot him on the forehead where he profusely bled,” read the police report.

Olunga was rushed to Kimilili Sub-County Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.

“Scene visited by the police accompanied by Scenes of Crime Personnel from Bungoma County, where the scene was processed and documented,” the report adds.

Barasa went into hiding following the shooting incident.
