Al Shabaab Abducts Six People in Lamu

Six people have reportedly been abducted by Al-Shabaab gunmen after members of the terrorist group carjacked a Toyota Prado vehicle they were traveling in at Milihoi along the Mpeketoni-Lamu road in Lamu County.

Confirming the incident, Coast region Administration Police boss James Akoru said that the six were taken hostage at 3pm Thursday.

Akoru said that security team comprising of General Service Unit officers have been dispatched to the scene. "We are yet to receive proper information about the incident but the reports we have is that a vehicle has been hijacked" said Akoru.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that one of the persons boarding the Prado was a top government officer headed to Witu to visit displaced families.

The official is said to have attended a meeting on Lamu Port (LAPSSET) at Huduma centre in Lamu town before heading to Witu.
