Controversial MP Shows Up at President Uhuru's State House Meeting Wearing Slippers

Embakasi West Member of Parliament George Theuri has become the center of attention after showing up at a meeting hosted by President Uhuru Kenyatta at the State House in Nairobi wearing slippers.

The meeting, which brought together Jubilee elected leaders from Nairobi County was convened by the President to chart way forward on how they will work together to deliver services to Mwananchi.

At the meeting, Uhuru called on the leaders to work hard and deliver better the services to city residents. “Wananchi are our bosses and that’s why we want to change Nairobi for the benefit of wananchi” stated Uhuru.

While other leaders present at the meeting, including Governor-elect Mike Sonko, Johnstone Sakaja (senator) and MPs dressed for the occasion, Theuri was the odd one out, clad in blue jeans and flip flops!

Theuri has in the past confessed to being involved in criminal activities and was involved in another controversy in 2016, when he allegedly insulted a constituent in a WhatsApp group. The constituent had criticized Theuri for showing up for a celebration at Kifaru Primary school wearing a vest!. The ceremony was in honor for top performer in the 2016 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results. The MP denied the allegation, saying that his mobile phone had been stolen.

Wacha zako. He must respect the office he will hold. If you are working in operating room there is no negotiating whether you will go to OR in jeans or green/blue scrubs. Even if you are the best surgeon/nurse lazima you have to wear OR scrubs.

Don't really care how he dresses; if he wants to wear a blouse that's his shauri. Bora he has a sound mind and can deliver on his promises.

If you work in USA try one day to go to work dressed the way you want and see whether they will not send you home to go and change. There is a reason why people dress according to the job they are hired to do.

My problem is not with Theuri given he has a juvenile criminal history. I am more worried about the act of hosting legislators at State House as this is not only partisan(are non-Jubilee leaders not Kenyans?) but also contravenes the principle of separation of powers.
