One Dead, Several Injured as Police Repulse anti-Poll Protesters in Kisumu

One person has succumbed to a gunshot wound while five others sustained gunshot injuries in Kisumu as police repulsed National Super Alliance (NASA) supporters protesting against the disputed repeat presidential election.
Twenty people were injured, and have been rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment.
The demonstrators are said to have engaged police in running battles and hurling stones at the anti-riot officers, a fierce clash ensuing.
The security situation in the lakeside city remains tense with protesters blocking roads leading into and out of Kisumu in attempts to block the election boycotted by their leader Raila Odinga.
Hundreds of police officers have been deployed in the city even as business operations remained paralyzed by the demos.
Voting kicked off at 6 am on Thursday in several parts of the country apart from Kisumu, Migori, Homa Bay and a few other Nasa strongholds.
In some of the areas, officials failed to distribute voting materials as charged youth blocked roads and other IEBC officials skipping duty for fear of their lives.

Very sad. And it came to pass at least some young dude was going to die on election day. I saw a video of how they were charging at the cops with stones. Let me say if that was US, many would be dead. The cops were very very patient and some could have been injured, this is NOT democracy throwing stones at cops. With videos in existence they can go to court, enough is enough.

Mugi thank you for stating that if it was in the US and police felt "threatened", the results would so different. Kenyans have no idea when they condemn the Kenyan police , the restraint they have .Try that in many cities in US , destroy property and hurl objects on cops , utakiona and now these days they have military gear . Police should sue! Wacha Lupita 's father standing there , he should ask the daughter how aggressive demonstrators are treated here or better yet Mexico....
