Raila's Planned 'Swearing in' Illegal, Jubilee Leaders Say

Senate Deputy Speaker Kithure Kindiki says that the planned swearing in of opposition leader Raila Odinga is unconstitutional and inconsequential.

The Tharaka Nithi senator says that the installation of Odinga as president is illegal since it will not be administered by Chief Registrar of the Judiciary and in presence of Chief Justice as stipulated in the constitution.

“The swearing in chapter was closed after President Uhuru Kenyatta was sworn in by the CJ. The purported swearing in will amount to nothing without the presence of the CJ,” said Kindiki.

Speaking separately at St Masimo Catholic Church in Mikinduri, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria advised the opposition to drop the plan, saying that no way the country can have two presidents serving at the same time.

“We are telling the Opposition to forget their plan because it is not constitutional and as per the law, the next elections will be held in 2022,” said Kabeabea.

Odinga last week announced that he will be sworn in as people's president on December 12th, the day Kenya celebrates independence day.

“I will be sworn in as President of Kenya on Jamhuri Day (December 12) through the people’s assembly, and go to State House. We will meet to discuss the matter and direct on the way forward,” Raila said.
