Raila, Kalonzo's Kin among Nine Elected to East Africa Legislative Assembly

Kenya has finally elected its nine Representatives to the East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA).

In an election conducted both National Assembly and Senate members on Thursday, seven former MPs and two youthful newcomers were elected to the regional Assembly to represent the country.

Former Kamukunji MP Simon Mbugua, who was among the 14 Jubilee Party’s nominees garnered 286 votes to sail to EALA. Others elected on the president Kenyatta's party ticket include Ms Florence Sergon (252 votes), ex-Mandera North MP Aden Nooru Mohammed (192), former Tigania East MP Mpuru Aburi (208) and former Nyandarua Woman Rep Wanjiku Muhia (180).

Those elected on a National Super Alliance (NASA) vehicle are Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka's son Kennedy Musyoka (309), ex-Balambala MP Abdikadir Aden (235), ODM leader Raila Odinga's brother Oburu Odinga (243) and former Wajir Woman Rep Fatuma Ibrahim Ali (142).

Notable figures who missed out on the lucrative positions include NASA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Norman Magaya, who was nominated by the opposition and former Commission on Implementation of the Constitution (CIC) chairman Charles Nyachae from the Jubilee side.
